Databricks role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Databricks is a single platform where companies store their data and build analytics and AI on top of it.
Who you'd be calling
Chief Data Officers, VP/Head of Data Engineering, Data Science and Analytics leads at large enterprises
Your opener
“Hi Pat, this is Alex from Databricks. We help companies bring all their data together so they can actually use it for analytics and AI. Is that something your team is working on this year?”
Problems you solve for them
- Company data is scattered across many systems and hard to use
- AI projects stall because the data isn't ready or trusted
- Running separate tools for data, analytics and AI is costly
Discovery questions to ask
- Where does your company's data live today, and how hard is it to bring together?
- What AI or analytics projects are you trying to launch, and what's holding them up?
- How many different tools does your data team use from start to finish?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Understood. Could we do a quick 10 minutes early next week?
“We're not interested.”
→ Fair enough. Is getting more value from your data not on the roadmap, or is it already covered?
“We already use Snowflake or a cloud provider's tools.”
→ Lots of companies do, and some use both. Where are you finding gaps, say in AI or in the cost of running things?
“Send me an email.”
→ Sure. So it's relevant, are you more focused on analytics, data engineering or AI right now?
Competitors worth knowing
Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Microsoft Fabric
Interview tips for this company
- The profile names big customers like adidas, AT&T and Mastercard; you can cite them as public references, but don't invent details about how they use it.
- Learn the phrase 'lakehouse' (one place for both raw data and organized data) and be ready to explain it simply.
