We're seeking a Technical Business Development Representative (BDR) to help drive the next wave of growth at Expo by introducing Expo's products to companies building React Native Apps and introducing Expo to companies building Native apps.
You'll be on the front lines identifying high-potential accounts in our Expo 2000, connecting with developers and engineering leaders who have never used our paid products, and finding creative ways to help them see the value of Expo's products like Workflows, Hosting, Observability, and Analytics. This isn't a typical outbound role — you'll be part product guide and part technical storyteller. You'll combine data, curiosity, and creativity to build pipelines, spark conversations, and generate qualified opportunities that drive meaningful adoption. We do not have a playbook yet so we are looking for someone who wants to go 0-1 with us.
We're a remote-friendly, ~40-person Series A startup operating at the intersection of developer tools and AI-powered app creation. The ideal candidate has no Sales experience, is deeply curious, and thrives in fast-moving environments where experimentation, resourcefulness, and empathy drive success. PT hours required.
Responsibilities
As a Technical BDR, you will:
Identify and qualify opportunities:
Prospect into our install base and beyond using product data, community insights, and creative outreach. Identify which teams should be on Expo's paid plans and why.
Educate and inspire:
Guide prospects through Expo's value prop — from faster builds and better deploys to Observability and Hosting — in a way that feels consultative and authentic.
Create pipeline through creativity:
Use Looms, code snippets, or mini-demos to catch developers' attention. Find unconventional, product-led ways to reach technical audiences (GitHub, forums, Slack, AI Apps etc.).
Collaborate with AEs/AMs:
Work tightly with Account Executives to hand off qualified opportunities and run coordinated plays that lead to closed revenue.
Leverage data and AI:
Use AI tools to personalize outreach, summarize usage data, and identify the right time to engage. Automate repetitive steps so you can focus on creativity and connection.
Feed insights back to the team:
Document patterns you see in outreach, objections, or product adoption and share them with Product, Marketing, and Growth.
Enterprises are betting on Expo to build beautiful apps in a more efficient, business friendly way. We are turning our developer adoption into business growth and this role is the first to bring that adoption to the Enterprise. You'll be our first Technical BDR, owning the earliest part of the funnel: identifying high-signal users or accounts, turning developer conversations into product education moments, and creating opportunities for our Account Executives. You'll test new channels, automate outreach, and learn what messaging resonates most with technical buyers.
This is a perfect role for someone technical, creative, and curious who wants to blend their love for technology with customer-facing work. If you've built apps before, experimented with developer tools, or just love helping people ship better software, you'll thrive here. We highly value someone with technical experience that wants to step into the Sales world, we will train you on everything you need to know to sell.
Qualities that make you a good fit
Technically curious:
You can speak comfortably about developer tools, CI/CD, APIs, SDKs, or mobile workflows — even if you're self-taught. You probably tinker or build things on the side.
Creative prospector:
You love testing new ways to start conversations — whether it's writing a clever email, sharing a short demo, or jumping into a community thread to help someone.
Resilient and persistent:
You understand that great outreach takes multiple touches and thoughtful persistence. You don't just follow up — you add value every time you do.
Excellent communicator:
Crisp writing, strong storytelling, and empathy for technical audiences. You make complex ideas simple.
Process-driven:
You take great notes, manage your CRM cleanly, and treat every opportunity as a small experiment to learn from.
Builder mindset:
You're joining early, which means building structure, testing playbooks, and iterating fast. You'll help define how we scale the BDR function from scratch.
Our values
We are a team driven by strong values, and we look for people who embody them:
Build developer trust:
Be dependable and genuinely help developers find success with our tools. Our reputation with developers is everything.
Autonomy:
Take an idea, build it, ship it, and own it. We encourage independent ownership of projects - with great freedom comes great responsibility.
Flexible primitives:
Provide powerful building blocks that offer high control. We strive for flexibility in our product and in our work, avoiding one-size-fits-all solutions.
Fast-forward principle:
Continuously look for ways to accelerate development for our users without adding unnecessary complexity. Speed and simplicity are core to our philosophy.
Make it work, make it right, make it fast:
First, deliver functional solutions. Then refine them for correctness and usability. Finally, optimize for performance. We believe in iterating to excellence.
