Zoom role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Video meetings, team chat and cloud phone software that businesses use to talk and work together.
Who you'd be calling
IT directors, heads of operations and office managers at companies of any size that use mixed or outdated meeting and phone tools
Your opener
“Hi Sam, this is Alex from Zoom. I know I'm calling out of the blue, got 30 seconds to tell you why I called, and then you can decide if it's worth continuing?”
Problems you solve for them
- Employees juggle too many separate tools for meetings, chat and phone
- Old office phone systems are costly to maintain and hard to use remotely
- Meetings are unreliable or hard to join for remote and hybrid teams
Discovery questions to ask
- What do your teams use today for meetings and phone calls?
- How do your remote and in-office people stay connected?
- What would you change about your current setup if you could?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. Would it be better if I called back later this week, say Thursday morning?
“Not interested.”
→ Fair enough, most people don't expect this call. Just so I'm not wasting your time, are meetings and phones working well for you today?
“We already use something for this.”
→ That's common, most teams already have something. How happy is your team with it, and would a single tool for meetings and phones be worth a quick look?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send you something useful, what's the main thing you'd want to fix about your current setup?
Competitors worth knowing
Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, Cisco Webex, RingCentral
Interview tips for this company
- Know that Zoom started with video meetings but now also sells phone (Zoom Phone) and more, so be ready to talk about 'one platform'.
- Because Zoom sells to all sizes, ask early about company size so you can adjust your pitch.
