ZipRecruiter role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
An online jobs marketplace where employers pay to post jobs and get matched with candidates.
Who you'd be calling
Owners, HR managers and hiring managers at small and mid-size businesses that hire often.
Your opener
“Hi Jordan, this is Alex from ZipRecruiter. I saw you're hiring and wanted to ask quickly: how is the search for that role going?”
Problems you solve for them
- Hiring takes too long and good candidates are hard to find
- Posting on many job boards is time-consuming and costly
- Small teams don't have a recruiter to sort through applicants
Discovery questions to ask
- How many open roles are you trying to fill right now?
- Where do you usually find your candidates today?
- What happens to the business when a position stays open for a long time?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy, I'm in the middle of something.”
→ Understood, hiring is a lot on top of everything else. When's a better time for a quick two-minute call today or tomorrow?
“We're not interested.”
→ Fair enough. Are you all set on hiring right now, or are you just happy with how it's going?
“We already use Indeed.”
→ Lots of employers do, and many use more than one site. Are you getting enough good applicants from it for every role?
“Send me an email.”
→ Sure. What role are you hiring for, so I can send something that fits?
Competitors worth knowing
Indeed, LinkedIn, Glassdoor
Interview tips for this company

- Practice a friendly, quick tone. SMB owners are busy and hate long pitches.
