Workyard role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
A mobile app for tracking worker time, GPS location and job costs, built for construction contractors.
Who you'd be calling
Owners, Office Managers and Operations Managers at small to mid-size construction and trade contractors
Your opener
“Hi Mike, this is Alex from Workyard. I saw you checked out our time tracking app, so I wanted to follow up. Do you have a quick minute to tell me how you track crew hours today?”
Problems you solve for them
- Paper timesheets and guesswork lead to payroll errors and overpaying
- Owners don't know if crews are on the job site or how much each job costs
- Office staff spend hours fixing and entering hours for payroll
Discovery questions to ask
- How do your crews report their hours right now?
- How long does it take to get timesheets ready for payroll?
- How do you know what each job is really costing you in labor?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm on a job site, I'm busy.”
→ No problem, I'll be brief. You looked at us recently, so I just want to see if I can help. When's a better time today or tomorrow to call you back?
“Not interested.”
→ Understood. Can I ask what made you look at time tracking in the first place? If that's solved, I'll step back.
“We already use something for timesheets.”
→ Okay, what are you using now? Does it track where crews are working and tie hours to each job, or do you still fix things by hand?
“Just email me the info.”
→ Sure thing. So I send the right info, are you mostly after better payroll accuracy or better job costing?
