UserTesting role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
A platform that lets companies watch real people use their website or app and share feedback, so teams build better products.
Who you'd be calling
VP/Director of Product, UX Research, Design and CX at mid-size to large companies with websites or apps.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from UserTesting. I know I'm calling out of the blue. Do you have 30 seconds to hear why I called, and then you can tell me if it's worth a conversation?”
Problems you solve for them
- Teams guess what customers want and build the wrong features
- Traditional user research is slow and hard to schedule
- Hard to prove to leadership that a design change helps customers
Discovery questions to ask
- How does your team find out what customers think before you launch a new feature?
- How long does it take today to get feedback from real users?
- What happens when stakeholders disagree on a design decision?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm really busy right now.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. Would it be better if I called back tomorrow, or Thursday morning?
“We're not interested.”
→ Fair enough, I did call you out of the blue. Out of curiosity, how does your team learn what customers think before a launch?
“We already use something for research.”
→ That's good, it means research matters to you. What do you like about it, and is there anything that takes longer than you'd want?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send something useful, what's the one product or customer problem you're focused on right now?
