Discovery questions to ask
- When a new lead or missed call comes in after hours, what happens to it today?
- After you send an estimate, who follows up and how often?
- How many past customers are in your system that you haven't contacted in a year?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ No problem, I know you're running jobs. Can I call you back at the end of the day, say 4:30 or 5, for two minutes?
“We're not interested.”
→ Understood. Out of curiosity, are you already getting back to every lead and open estimate within a few minutes, or does some slip through?
“We already use something for that.”
→ Good, then you know how helpful it is. What does it do after an estimate goes out, and is anyone texting your old customers?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Sure thing. What would be most useful to see: booking more new jobs or reviving old estimates? And is this the right email to reach you?
Interview tips for this company
- Know how a trade business makes money: calls, booked jobs, estimates and the repeat customer list. Talk in jobs booked, not features.
- Practice a short, casual tone. Owners of small shops hang up fast on anything that sounds like a pitch.
