SS&C Technologies role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Software that helps banks, wealth managers and investment firms run portfolios, accounts, reporting and back-office operations.
Who you'd be calling
Heads of wealth management, operations, technology or advisory services at banks, trust companies, RIAs and wealth firms.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from SS&C. I know I'm calling out of the blue. Do you have 30 seconds to hear why I called, and then you can tell me if it's worth continuing?”
Problems you solve for them
- Old systems that don't talk to each other, so teams re-key data by hand
- Slow, error-prone client reporting and account servicing
- Rising compliance and regulatory work eating staff time
Discovery questions to ask
- How does your team handle portfolio and client reporting today?
- How many different systems does an advisor touch to service one client?
- What's on your technology wish list for the next 12 months?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm really busy right now.”
→ Totally understand, I'll be quick. Could I grab 15 minutes on your calendar later this week instead?
“We're not interested.”
→ Fair enough. Can I ask what you're happy with today, so I'm not wasting your time with the wrong thing?
“We already use something for that.”
→ That makes sense, most firms do. How well is it working for reporting and keeping data clean across systems?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send you something useful, what's the one area, reporting, operations or compliance, that matters most to you?
Competitors worth knowing
Broadridge, FIS, Envestnet, SEI
