Sharp Electronics role-play cheat sheet

For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.

What they sell, in one line

Sharp sells copiers, printers and managed print/IT services to businesses, plus the support to keep them running.

Who you'd be calling

Office managers, operations managers, IT managers and owners at small and local businesses and offices

Your opener

“Hi, it's [Name] from Sharp Electronics. I know I'm calling out of the blue. Do you have 30 seconds to hear why I called, and then you can tell me if it's worth a longer chat?”

Problems you solve for them

Old copiers and printers that jam, break down or cost a lot to repair
Surprise bills for toner, service calls and paper
No time or staff to manage printers, scanning and document workflows

Discovery questions to ask

Who handles your printers and copiers today, and how's that going?
How old is your current equipment, and when does your lease or contract come up?
When something breaks, how long does it take to get fixed, and what does that cost you?

Objections they'll throw at you

“I'm really busy right now.”

→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. Is there a better 10 minutes later this week when I could call you back?

“We're not interested.”

→ Fair enough, most people aren't until something breaks. Out of curiosity, are you happy with what you pay for printing and service now?

“We already have a copier company we use.”

→ Good, that means you have a setup in place. When does your contract end, and would a quick side-by-side quote be useful then?

“Just send me an email.”

→ Happy to. So I send the right info, what model do you use now and what bugs you most about it?

Competitors worth knowing

Canon, Ricoh, Konica Minolta, Xerox, Kyocera

Interview tips for this company

Know that Sharp sells to businesses through a local dealer-style model, so ask the recruiter how leads and territories work.
Practice talking about a boring product with energy: lead with downtime and hidden costs, not specs.
Expect a local-business role play, so keep your pitch very simple and friendly for a busy office manager.
