Rapid7 role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Security platform that helps teams find weak spots, detect threats and respond to attacks.
Who you'd be calling
CISOs, security operations (SOC) managers, vulnerability management and security directors at mid-size and large companies
Your opener
“Hi, this is Taylor from Rapid7. I know I'm calling out of the blue, do you have a quick minute? I talk to security teams that are buried in alerts and trying to work out which weaknesses really matter.”
Problems you solve for them
- Too many alerts and not enough staff to investigate them
- Hard to see all the systems and weaknesses an attacker could use
- Using many separate security tools makes response slow
Discovery questions to ask
- How does your team find and prioritize vulnerabilities today?
- How many security tools does your team juggle, and do they work together?
- How do you handle alerts and investigations, in-house or with outside help?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Understood, I'll be quick. Can I come back at a better time, say Tuesday morning or Thursday afternoon?
“We're not interested.”
→ Okay. Just so I know, is security tooling settled for this year, or is it a matter of who owns it?
“We already use CrowdStrike / Splunk / another vendor.”
→ Those are strong tools. Where do you still have gaps or too much manual work, and would a short comparison be useful?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Sure. What's the biggest security headache right now so I can send something relevant? And can we pencil in a quick follow-up?
Competitors worth knowing
CrowdStrike, Tenable, Qualys, Palo Alto Networks
Interview tips for this company
- Know a few terms: vulnerability management, SIEM, SOC, and 'exposure management' (finding what's risky across everything you own).
- Security buyers hate fluff, so be direct, honest, and don't claim technical depth you don't have.
