Popl role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Popl scans badges and business cards at events, enriches the contact data, and syncs each lead into your CRM.
Who you'd be calling
Heads of field marketing, event marketing managers, demand gen leaders, and sales or revenue ops at mid-market companies that run trade shows and conferences.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [Your Name] from Popl. I know I'm calling out of the blue. Do you have 30 seconds to hear why I called, and then you can tell me if it's worth continuing?”
Problems you solve for them
- Leads from events sit in spreadsheets or on badge scanners for weeks before sales sees them.
- Teams can't prove which events brought in pipeline, so event budgets are hard to defend.
- Booth staff type notes by hand or lose business cards, so the data is missing or wrong.
Discovery questions to ask
- How many events does your team go to in a year, and how do you capture leads at the booth today?
- How long does it take for an event lead to show up in your CRM and get a follow-up?
- How do you decide which events are worth paying for again next year?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Totally fair, I'll be quick. Would it be better if I called back tomorrow morning, or later this week?
“We're not interested.”
→ Understood. Can I ask what you use at events today? I'd like to know if I'm calling the wrong person.
“We already use a badge scanner from the event organizer.”
→ Those are common. A lot of teams find the data comes late and doesn't flow into their CRM on its own. How long does it take for those leads to reach your reps?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send you something useful, which matters more for you: faster follow-up or proving event ROI?
