Pave role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Software that helps companies benchmark pay, price jobs, and run salary review cycles in one place.
Who you'd be calling
Heads of People, HR/Total Rewards leaders, and CFOs or finance leads at growing tech companies.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from Pave. I know I'm calling out of the blue. Do you have 30 seconds to hear why I called, and then you can tell me if it's worth continuing?”
Problems you solve for them
- Pay decisions based on gut feel or outdated salary surveys
- Merit and raise cycles run in messy spreadsheets
- Hard to prove pay is fair and competitive to employees and execs
Discovery questions to ask
- How do you decide what to pay for a new role today?
- What does your raise or merit cycle look like, and who gets pulled into it?
- How do you know your pay is competitive with other companies hiring the same people?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Totally fair, I'll be quick. I just want to see if pay benchmarking is even on your radar this year. Would it be better if I called back tomorrow morning?
“I'm not interested.”
→ Understood, most people I call aren't until they hit a pay issue. Out of curiosity, how are you handling offers and raises today?
“We already use something for this.”
→ That's good to hear. Many teams use a survey or spreadsheet alongside it. What do you like about it, and what do you wish it did better?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send something useful, what's the biggest pay challenge on your plate right now?
