Numeral role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Software that calculates, files and manages sales tax for online sellers, using AI agents plus human tax experts.
Who you'd be calling
Finance leaders, controllers, heads of finance or ops, and founders at ecommerce brands and SaaS companies selling in many states.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from Numeral. I know I'm calling out of the blue, got 30 seconds to tell you why I called and you can tell me if it's relevant?”
Problems you solve for them
- Sales tax rules change by state and it's hard to know where you owe
- Filing returns by hand eats finance team time
- Fear of audits, penalties and surprise back-tax bills as sales grow
Discovery questions to ask
- How are you handling sales tax today: in-house, a spreadsheet, or a tool?
- Do you know which states you've got to register and file in as you've grown?
- How much time does your team spend on filings each month?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. Is sales tax something your team deals with each month, or should I grab five minutes later this week?
“Not interested.”
→ Fair enough, I did call you cold. Out of curiosity, is sales tax already handled and off your plate, or is it a bit of a headache?
“We already use something for this.”
→ Good, then you take it seriously. What do you like about it, and is there anything you'd change if you could?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send the right thing, are you more worried about registrations, filings, or audit risk?
