Motorola Solutions role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Two-way radios, video security and software that police, fire, emergency teams and businesses use to stay safe and connected.
Who you'd be calling
Police and fire chiefs, 911 and dispatch center directors, city IT leaders, and security or facilities managers at businesses
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from Motorola Solutions. I know you're busy, so I'll be brief. I'm calling public safety teams to ask how they're handling communication and video between dispatch and responders in the field.”
Problems you solve for them
- Responders need radios and communications that work in emergencies
- Agencies have too much video and data to review quickly
- Old systems don't connect dispatch, radios and cameras together
Discovery questions to ask
- How do your dispatchers, officers and responders stay connected today?
- How old is your radio or dispatch equipment, and are upgrades planned?
- When you need video from an incident, how long does it take to find and share?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ I understand, your work is urgent. I'll keep this short. Is there a better time this week to talk for ten minutes about your communications setup?
“Not interested.”
→ Okay. Just so I know, is that because your systems are working well, or because there isn't funding for upgrades right now?
“We already use something for that.”
→ That makes sense, most agencies already have equipment. How is it holding up, and is there anything you'd change about coverage or reliability?
“Send me an email.”
→ Of course. To send the right thing, are you more focused on radios, dispatch software or video? And who handles purchasing, you or someone else?
Competitors worth knowing
Axon, L3Harris, Hytera
