Mendix role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
A low-code platform that lets companies build business apps and workflows faster, with less hand coding.
Who you'd be calling
CIOs, IT directors, heads of digital transformation, and enterprise architects at large companies with long app backlogs.
Your opener
“Hi, this is Jordan from Mendix. I know I'm calling out of the blue, got 30 seconds? We help IT teams build business apps much faster with low-code, so the backlog stops piling up.”
Problems you solve for them
- IT has a huge backlog of app requests that never get built
- Old systems are slow and costly to replace or modernize
- Not enough developers to build everything the business wants
Discovery questions to ask
- How long does it usually take to get a new internal app from request to launch?
- How big is the backlog of requests your IT team is working through?
- Are there old systems you've been wanting to update but haven't had the time or budget?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Of course, I'll be brief. Can I ask one quick question about your app backlog, and if it's not a priority I'll hang up?
“We're not interested.”
→ I hear you. Just so I'm not wasting your time, is building apps faster something that's ever come up on your team, or is it not a topic right now?
“We already use a platform for that.”
→ Good to know, which one? How's it working for the bigger, more complex projects, or is it mostly used for small things?
“Send me an email.”
→ Happy to. What would be most useful to see: how fast teams build, how it works with old systems, or how it stays secure and governed?
Competitors worth knowing
OutSystems, Microsoft Power Apps, ServiceNow, Appian
Interview tips for this company
- Be able to explain low-code in one sentence: building apps by dragging and dropping pieces instead of writing everything by hand.
- Know the buyer worry about 'shadow IT' (people building unsafe apps on their own), because governance and control is a big selling point.
