LocalStack role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
A tool that lets developers run and test cloud apps on their own machine or in CI instead of the real cloud.
Who you'd be calling
Engineering managers, DevOps and platform leads, and developers at software companies that build on AWS.
Your opener
“Hi Sam, this is Alex from LocalStack. I'm calling because teams that build on AWS often tell us testing in the real cloud slows them down. Do you have a quick minute to tell me if that's true for your team?”
Problems you solve for them
- Testing in the real cloud is slow and can get expensive
- Developers wait on shared environments and flaky pipelines
- Mistakes get caught late, after they touch real cloud resources
Discovery questions to ask
- How do your developers test cloud features today, before the code goes live?
- How long do your CI builds take, and how often do they fail for reasons that aren't real bugs?
- Roughly what does your team spend on cloud accounts used only for testing?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ No problem, I'll be brief. Can I send a two-line note and grab five minutes with you later this week?
“We're not interested.”
→ Understood. Is it that your testing already runs smoothly, or that a local setup hasn't been something you've looked at?
“We already use real cloud dev accounts or another tool.”
→ That works for many teams. Does it ever slow people down, or run up cost, when everyone tests at once?
“Send me an email.”
→ Sure thing. Would it help if I pointed it to the person who owns your CI or developer tooling, so it lands with the right reader?
Interview tips for this company
- Learn the basics: what AWS is, what a developer environment is, and what CI/CD means. You don't need to code, just explain it simply.
- Practice asking developers about their pain, not pitching features. Developers dislike buzzwords and sales fluff.
