Hudl role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Video recording hardware plus software that lets sports teams film games, review footage, and analyze performance.
Who you'd be calling
Athletic directors, head coaches, and club directors at high schools, colleges, and youth or club sports programs.
Your opener
“Hi Coach, this is Sam from Hudl. I know you're probably between practices, so I'll be quick: I'm calling because we help programs like yours film games and break down video without spending hours doing it by hand. Can I ask how you're handling game film right now?”
Problems you solve for them
- Coaches spend hours manually filming, cutting, and sharing game video
- Athletes can't easily review their own plays or build highlight reels for recruiting
- Tight school budgets make it hard to justify and manage tech spending
Discovery questions to ask
- How do you record and share game film with your players today?
- How much time do your coaches spend each week cutting and reviewing video?
- Do your athletes use film to get recruited, and how do they put that together?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm in the middle of practice, I don't have time.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. I just want to see if film is a pain point for you. Is there a better time later this week, maybe after practice?
“I'm not interested.”
→ Fair enough, I'm not here to push anything. A lot of coaches I talk to say that until they hear how much time they could save on film. Can I ask how you handle it today before I let you go?
“We already use something for video.”
→ That's great, so you already know film matters. A lot of programs use a mix of tools. What do you like most about it, and is there anything you wish it did better?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send you something useful and not junk, what's the one thing about game film you'd most want to improve?

Interview tips for this company
- Know the difference between the audience types: a coach cares about time and winning, an athletic director cares about budget and approvals, so tailor your opener to who answers.
