Homebase role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
One easy app for small businesses to schedule hourly staff, track time, run payroll and hire.
Who you'd be calling
Owners and managers of small businesses with hourly workers, like restaurants, cafes, retail shops and salons
Your opener
“Hi Maria, this is Alex from Homebase. I'm calling because we help small business owners handle schedules, timesheets and payroll in one simple app. How do you build your team's schedule right now?”
Problems you solve for them
- Building schedules by hand or in spreadsheets takes hours
- Tracking hours and payroll errors cost money
- Staff no-shows and last-minute shift swaps cause chaos
Discovery questions to ask
- How do you build the schedule and track hours today: paper, spreadsheet, or an app?
- How long does payroll take you each pay period?
- How do you handle shift swaps and call-outs?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy, I'm in the middle of a shift.”
→ Totally understand, I'll let you go. When's a quieter time today or tomorrow that I can call you back for two minutes?
“Not interested.”
→ No problem. Out of curiosity, are schedules and payroll running smoothly, or do they eat up your time?
“We already have a system.”
→ Great. Does it handle scheduling, time clock and payroll together, or are you juggling a few tools?
“Send me an email.”
→ Sure. Since you're busy running the place, which matters most: saving time on scheduling, or cutting payroll hassle?
