Granicus role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Software that helps governments communicate with residents through email, text, websites, and online public meetings.
Who you'd be calling
Communications directors, public information officers, city clerks, IT leaders, and city or county managers at government agencies.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [Your Name] with Granicus. We help government agencies reach residents more easily through email, text, and their website. Do you handle communications for your agency?”
Problems you solve for them
- Residents miss important updates and don't know where to find information
- Government websites are hard to use and keep updated
- Public meetings and records take a lot of manual work to publish
Discovery questions to ask
- How do you get news and alerts out to residents today?
- How do residents find information or services on your website?
- How do you handle posting public meetings and agendas?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Understood. Would a quick call later this week work better, and what time is best?
“We're not interested.”
→ No problem. Is that because your current way of reaching residents is working well, or because it's not a priority right now?
“We already use something for that.”
→ Good to hear. What do you like about it, and is there anything you wish it did better?
“Send me an email.”
→ Happy to. Should I focus on communications, website, or meeting tools, and is there anyone else who should see it?
