First Due role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Cloud software that fire departments and EMS agencies use to run reporting, inspections, pre-plans and daily operations.
Who you'd be calling
Fire chiefs, deputy chiefs, EMS directors, fire marshals and IT or records staff at city, county and district fire/EMS agencies.
Your opener
“Hi Chief, this is Sam from First Due. I know you're slammed, so I'll be quick: I'm calling fire departments about cutting down the time crews spend on reports and inspections. Do you have 30 seconds to tell me if that's something you deal with?”
Problems you solve for them
- Paper or outdated systems make reports slow and error-prone
- Crews lack quick access to building and hazard info on the way to a call
- Hard to track inspections, training and compliance in one place
Discovery questions to ask
- What system does your department use today for incident reports and inspections?
- How much time do officers spend on paperwork after a call?
- When a crew rolls up to a building, how do they know what hazards are inside?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy, I'm at the station.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be fast. Could I grab 10 minutes later this week, when is the quietest time for you?
“Not interested.”
→ Fair enough, most chiefs I call aren't looking until something breaks. Can I ask what you use today, so I don't waste your time?
“We already use something for that.”
→ Good, that means you already see the value of the software. How happy is the crew with it, and would a quick look at how we compare be worth 15 minutes?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So it's useful and not generic, what's the one thing you'd most like to fix in your reporting right now?

Interview tips for this company
- Know the mission: preventing first responder injury and death. Say it naturally, it shows you care about the job.
- Learn fire vocab: RMS, pre-plans, inspections, run reports. Using it right on a call makes you sound credible.
- Government buyers move slowly and use budgets and procurement, so ask about timing and who else signs off.
