Evolv Technologies Inc. role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
AI-powered security screening that detects weapons at entrances without the slow lines of traditional metal detectors.
Who you'd be calling
Security directors, facilities heads and operations leaders at stadiums, venues, school districts and hospitals
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [Your Name] from Evolv Technology. I know I'm calling out of the blue. We help venues and schools screen for weapons without long lines, so I wanted to ask how entry security works for you today.”
Problems you solve for them
- Traditional metal detectors create long lines and a poor guest experience
- Staff have to manually check bags and people, which is slow and takes many people
- Leaders worry about weapons getting into schools, hospitals and crowded venues
Discovery questions to ask
- How do you screen people at your entrances today?
- How long do lines get at peak times, and how does that affect visitors or staff?
- Who is involved when you look at new security tools, and is there a budget cycle coming up?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Of course, I'll keep it to 30 seconds. I just want to see whether entry screening is a priority this year. Would a short call later this week work?
“We're not interested.”
→ I understand. Security is a sensitive topic. Can I ask whether long lines or staffing at your entrances are a challenge at all?
“We already have metal detectors and guards.”
→ That's a solid base. We're often talked to by teams who like their setup but want faster entry. How do your lines move during busy events?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. To make it useful, is your main concern safety, speed of entry, or cost of staffing?
Competitors worth knowing
CEIA, Smiths Detection, Xtract One
Interview tips for this company
- Be calm and respectful when talking about weapons and safety. Buyers like schools and hospitals are cautious, so avoid fear tactics.
- Know that Evolv is publicly traded (NASDAQ: EVLV) and has a mixed customer base. Practice adjusting your pitch for a school administrator versus a stadium operator.
