Engine role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
A business travel booking platform with its own hotel supply, used by companies, travel businesses and AI apps.
Who you'd be calling
Travel managers, operations and finance leaders at companies, plus heads of product or partnerships at travel agencies and travel tech firms.
Your opener
“Hi Taylor, this is Alex from Engine. We help companies book and manage business travel in one place, and I wanted to see how you handle it today. Got a quick minute?”
Problems you solve for them
- Employees book travel in messy ways, so companies lose track of spend
- Travel teams juggle many tools and suppliers to find good lodging
- Travel and tech companies struggle to build booking features without access to hotel inventory
Discovery questions to ask
- How do your people book business travel today, and who keeps track of it?
- What's most frustrating about finding or managing hotels and group travel?
- How do you see what the company spends on travel?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ No worries, I'll keep it short. When's a better time for a quick 10-minute call this week?
“We're not interested.”
→ Got it. Can I ask how you handle business travel today, in case there's one thing we could make easier?
“We already use a travel tool.”
→ That makes sense, most teams do. What's one thing that tool doesn't do well, like group trips or hotel choice?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Of course. So I send the right thing, is your bigger need booking for employees, group travel, or building travel into your own product?
