Docker role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Container developer tools like Docker Desktop, Docker Hub and Docker Scout for building, sharing and securing apps.
Who you'd be calling
Engineering managers, platform and DevOps leads, and heads of developer productivity at companies with dev teams.
Your opener
“Hi Chris, this is Sam from Docker. I'm reaching out to engineering leaders about how their teams manage containers and developer environments. Can I ask how your developers are working with Docker today?”
Problems you solve for them
- Inconsistent dev environments, so it works on my machine but not yours
- Container images with security vulnerabilities and supply chain risks
- Managing developer tooling, access and licenses across a large team
Discovery questions to ask
- How many developers on your team use Docker or containers today?
- How do you keep container images secure and up to date?
- How do you manage dev environments and tool access across the team?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy.”
→ No problem, I'll be brief. Is later this week better for a quick call?
“Not interested. We already use Docker for free.”
→ That's great to hear, lots of teams start there. Do you have any visibility into security or team-wide controls as it grows, and would that be useful?
“We already use something else.”
→ Fair enough. What are you using today, and how is it working for your security and management needs?
“Send me an email.”
→ Of course. Is your priority more on security, developer productivity or managing licenses so I can tailor it?
Competitors worth knowing
Podman, Red Hat, Rancher Desktop, Snyk
