Dash0 role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Observability platform built natively on OpenTelemetry to monitor apps and infrastructure with transparent pricing and no vendor lock-in.
Who you'd be calling
Platform engineers, SREs, DevOps leads and engineering managers at software companies running cloud apps.
Your opener
“Hi Priya, this is Sam from Dash0. I know you're probably in the middle of something, so quick reason for my call: we help engineering teams get observability built on OpenTelemetry, without the surprise bills. Can I ask how you're handling monitoring today?”
Problems you solve for them
- Observability bills that are high and hard to predict
- Being locked into one vendor's proprietary agents and data format
- Slow troubleshooting because of too many dashboards and noisy alerts
Discovery questions to ask
- What tools do you use today for logs, metrics and traces?
- Are you using OpenTelemetry already, or planning to?
- How predictable is your monitoring bill from month to month?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ No problem, I'll be 20 seconds. Would it be easier if I called back later this week, or is there a better time?
“Not interested.”
→ Understood. Is that because your monitoring is working well, or because it's not a priority right now?
“We already use Datadog.”
→ Lots of teams do, and it's a solid tool. Is cost or flexibility ever a concern as you grow, and would you be open to seeing a different approach?
“Send me an email.”
→ Sure thing. What one thing should I put in it so it's worth your time, such as cost, OpenTelemetry support or faster debugging?
Competitors worth knowing
Datadog, Grafana Labs, New Relic, Honeycomb
Interview tips for this company
- Learn in plain words what OpenTelemetry is: an open standard for collecting logs, metrics and traces, so you aren't tied to one vendor.
- Know the buyer is technical, so keep the call short and honest, and don't pretend to know details you don't.
