Cursor role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Cursor is an AI-powered code editor that helps developers write, edit and understand code faster.
Who you'd be calling
Engineering managers, VPs of engineering, CTOs and developer productivity leads at startups and mid-market software companies.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [Your Name] from Cursor. I know I'm catching you mid-day. Many engineering teams are using AI to write code faster, and I wanted to ask how your developers use it today.”
Problems you solve for them
- Engineering teams want to ship faster without adding headcount
- Developers use AI tools in inconsistent ways across the team
- Leaders need security and admin control over AI coding tools
Discovery questions to ask
- Are your developers using AI coding tools today, and which ones?
- Where does your team lose the most time in building and shipping code?
- Who decides which developer tools the team gets to use?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ No worries, I'll be brief. Can I ask one question about how your developers use AI, and then you decide if it's worth more time?
“Not interested.”
→ Fair enough. Is that because the team already has a setup you like, or AI coding hasn't been a priority?
“We already use something for this.”
→ Good, so your team's already ahead. What do developers like about it, and is there anything they wish it did better?
“Send me an email.”
→ Happy to. What would make it useful, speed, security or cost? And could we pencil in a quick call next week?

Interview tips for this company
- The profile you have is for an Account Executive role. If you're interviewing for an SDR role, confirm what they sell and who they target.
- Try the product before the interview so you can talk about it like a real user. Developers can tell when someone hasn't.
