Citian role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Software that helps state and local governments plan, manage and improve transportation.
Who you'd be calling
Transportation directors, public works leaders, traffic engineers and planners at cities, counties and state agencies.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from Citian. I know I'm calling out of the blue. I work with transportation teams in local government, and I wanted to ask quickly how you currently plan and track projects, if you have a minute?”
Problems you solve for them
- Transportation data sits in separate systems, making planning slow
- Small agency teams have limited time and staff for studies and reporting
- Hard to show the public and elected officials where money and projects are going
Discovery questions to ask
- How does your team plan and prioritize transportation projects today?
- Where does your traffic and project data live, and how hard is it to pull together?
- What do you need to report to council, the public or the state?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Of course, I'll let you go. Is there a better time later this week, maybe for a five-minute call?
“We're not interested.”
→ No worries, I appreciate you telling me. Is it that planning tools are covered, or that it's just not on your plate this year?
“We already use something for this.”
→ Good to know. What do you use today, and is there anything it doesn't handle well, like reporting or sharing data between teams?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. What's the main transportation challenge you'd want it to speak to, and may I follow up in a week?
