Chainguard role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Hardened, low-vulnerability container images and open source software that companies can trust in their software supply chain.
Who you'd be calling
Heads of security, DevSecOps, platform engineering, and engineering leaders at large enterprises.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from Chainguard. I know this is unexpected. Do you have a quick moment for me to explain why I called about container security?”
Problems you solve for them
- Container images full of known vulnerabilities to patch
- Pressure to meet security and compliance requirements
- Security alerts that eat up engineering time
Discovery questions to ask
- Where do your container images come from today?
- How much time does your team spend fixing vulnerabilities in them?
- Are customers or auditors asking for proof of software supply chain security?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ No problem, I'll be quick. Is vulnerability cleanup a pain point for your team? If so, can we find five minutes later this week?
“I'm not interested.”
→ Understood. Out of curiosity, how does your team handle the long list of vulnerabilities in container images today?
“We already use something for this.”
→ Good to hear you're taking it seriously. What tool do you use, and how many vulnerabilities still land on your team's plate?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. Is your bigger concern security risk, compliance, or engineering time spent on patching?
Competitors worth knowing
Docker Hardened Images, Red Hat (UBI), Snyk
