AfterShip role-play cheat sheet
For the mock cold call at the end of most SDR interviews.
What they sell, in one line
Software that tracks online orders after checkout, sends delivery updates, handles shipping labels and returns for ecommerce stores.
Who you'd be calling
Ecommerce managers, heads of operations or customer experience, and founders at online stores (small Shopify shops up to larger brands).
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [Your Name] from AfterShip. I know I'm calling out of the blue. Do you have 30 seconds to tell you why I called, and then you can decide if it's worth continuing?”
Problems you solve for them
- Customers keep asking 'where is my order?', which floods support inboxes
- Late or lost packages hurt reviews and repeat purchases
- Tracking, labels and returns live in separate tools that don't talk to each other
Discovery questions to ask
- How do customers find out where their order is once it ships?
- How many 'where is my order' tickets does your team handle in a typical week?
- How do you handle returns today, and who owns that process?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. Would it be better if I called back tomorrow morning, or is a Thursday afternoon slot easier?
“Not interested.”
→ Fair enough, I did call you cold. Out of curiosity, is shipping updates just not a problem for you right now, or is it already handled well?
“We already use something for tracking.”
→ Good, that means you care about the customer experience. How well does it cover returns and delivery estimates, or is that handled somewhere else?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send you something useful and not generic, what's your biggest headache after the customer clicks buy?
