VP/Director of Product, Service, Digital or Aftermarket at equipment makers (construction, forklifts, industrial, mobility); large manufacturers.
Your opener
“Hi [Name], this is [You] from Aerovy. I know I'm calling out of the blue, but do you have 30 seconds to tell me if I'm even close to the right person? We help equipment makers pull the data from their machines into one clean view, and I wanted to ask how your team handles that today.”
Problems you solve for them
- Every brand and model year sends data in a different format, so nothing lines up
- Makers can't see how machines are doing in the field, so repairs are reactive
- Internal teams spend months building one-off data pipelines instead of improving products
Discovery questions to ask
- How do you get data from your machines in the field today, and how many different formats or systems is that?
- When a machine is about to fail, how do you find out, and how long does it usually take?
- Who owns building and maintaining that data work, and how much of their time does it eat?
Objections they'll throw at you
“I'm busy right now.”
→ Totally get it, I'll be quick. I'm only trying to find out if machine data is a headache for you. Would it be better if I called back Thursday morning for 10 minutes?
“Not interested.”
→ Fair enough, I did call you out of the blue. Most people I talk to say the same until they hear it's about machine data from mixed fleets. Is that something your team already has under control?
“We already build this in-house / use something.”
→ That makes sense, a lot of makers start that way. Where it gets hard is keeping up as brands and model years pile up. How much time does your team spend maintaining it?
“Just send me an email.”
→ Happy to. So I send something useful rather than generic, what's the one data problem you'd most want solved? Then I'll send a short note and check in next week.
Interview tips for this company
- Learn what OEM, telemetry and 'normalized data' mean in plain words, and practice explaining them without jargon in one sentence.
